Question Lift Pump Questions and Trouble Code

I just got a late 01 with 70k on it bone stock automatic. Im about to change out the lift pump as a preventative measure. My truck threw a code "ECU 0216" and the "1693"

1) What is the 0216 code in plain english? and what to do to fix it?

2) If I put a new pump on and also add an additional/aftermarket pump near the tank, are these factory pumps flowthrough capable. Meaning if the pump on the block fails, will fuel be able to flow through the factory pump?

3) What PSI range should the fuel system be under throttle? I have a guage and the lines.

PS.***Also sometimes right after starting and leaving the house the truck feels completely dead and wont acellorate and I have to stop, put the truck in park or neutral, rev it a few times, then back in gear and it seems ok. When this problem happens while driving, pumping the throttle and etc, does nothing, turck just feels dead. All fluid llevels are ok and just had the tranny fluid changed after this first happened? Please Help

Thanks for the help and information!!!

P0216 means you are soon to be in the market for a Injection Pump (VP-44).
I would remove the lift pump from the stock location all together if you are going to do anything back further in the way of a "pusher" pump.

Sorry about your luck.

Call a dealer and see when your "in service" date was. Slim chance, but you may still have some warranty left. (5 years/100K)

Search "dead peddle" common symptom to your failing pump. You'll also hit on a bunch of P0216 threads in that search.
You should see anywhere from 11-12.5 psi WOT.

I'm having pretty much the same symptoms on my 2001.

Put a new lift pump on saturday, maybe helped some (had
a lot of dead pedal last weekend), but still getting dp on
startup and some accel.

I double recommend looking into the relocation to the
frame. Having now done the on-engine swap, no way
do I ever want to do it again. Not really overly hard,
just a real pain compared to how easy it would be on
the frame. Felt like I dang near broke my arm just getting
both hands down there just to start one of the mounting
nuts.

I think Geno's (site sponsor) has a relocation kit
for about $70. I got a Cummins replacement pump from
local truck repar shop for $90. My near-term time frame
didn't allow for putting in the kit. There are other lift
pump options depending upon how much research you
can spend right now.

Having the VP44 replaced Wednesday.

Good Luck,
Lowell

1. 0216 = $1500-$2000 bucks depending on the shop.
if you jsut bought it, i would take it back and have them fix it if they will. did you get it off of a car lot or off of an individual?

2. yes, it will flow through

3. nothing under 8 psi at wot. perferably over 10

what your experinceing is the notiourus dead pedal. bad vp-44. thats what the 0216 is telling you.

If you get a new pump on it, AND a fuel persure gauge, and like the truck. With just 70k on it and leave if close to stock it should be good for a long time. IMO
