Thumbs down Lift Pump Price

I just called the dealer and asked for a price on a new lift pump. I have them the part number 5080885AA and they told me it was $342. Are these guys nuts? There is no way I am paying that much for a stock lift pump. I'm sure if I call the cummins dealer and ask them they will be cheaper but I was wondering about this.

Is this a lift pump you would get from dodge if you ordered it or is this an identical one made by carter? Have you guys ever heard of this pump and is it alright? I think I want to change my lift pump before winter since the pressure is getting pretty low and I won't have a place to work on it in the winter. So let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I just called the local cummins shop and they said they have one but I had to use the part number in the tech facts for a 99 and higher. I also asked about a wiring harness and they said they couldn't find it but it had to be there. If they have the pump then they have the wiring harness Their price on the pump was $155 and I'm not sure how much the harness is because they couldn't get the part number to come up.

Second question: How hard is it to install this new pump? It looks to me like they moved it a little or else why would they have lengthened the wires? I'm pretty mechanically inclined but no mechanic and I am going to be doing this myself so how hard do you think it is going to be and what 4 hours maybe? Thanks

I actually just finished installing mine that i got from heath and it took about an hour with smoke breaks. super easy just make sure you get the washers on both sides of each banjo bolt the rear one is a little tricky. Also I took the fuel filter housing off gives a little room to work. On the wires i don't know why they lengthened them i didn't use mine I wonder if you have to use them? If so i better go put it on

I guess the wiring harness is only for the 98 and 99's but I don't understand why we need it.

Just curious, what were your pressures before and after the install?

At Idle I was about 12.5
Driving steady on the freeway about 2100 RPM it was 10
and WOT went clear down to 3

Now it idles at 15.5-16
Not sure about freeway yet
WOT it won't go below 9

I just installed my FP gauge a few weeks ago and i am glad i did or else I would have never known. One thing i did notice was the truck was noticably louder for some reason. When the fuel pump went out.

Wow ur pressure dropped dramatically at WOT with the old pump. I am around 8 idle and cruising about 6 and WOT 3 or maybe 2 if i hold it long enough up a hill. Did you notice any difference in power with the new LP?

Not to sure yet, just put it on. But it does seem a little more responsive off the line but that is probably just me hoping to squeeze a few ponies in somewhere.

Awesome, thanks for all of your help.

I personally think our tranny's steal the real power from our engines. Cant afford a DTT. Wish I had a manual

I believe the wiring harness difference has to do with the "new" lift pump style. It is supposed to be an improved pump of the latest build. Therefore, naturally, it has a different plug on it than the older one, requiring the wiring harness adapter to fit on the older engines. Everything I have read suggests that the pump is a bit better, and the harness is supposed to be cheap, making the upgrade a good choice. I am not sure what years are affected, but I think the '02's are the ones with the new plug. That would explain why oscaroc didn't need to use it. Another thread here suggested the new wiring adapter may even be packaged with the new pump, but again, I am not 100% sure.
