lift pump presure

Hi Guys
I am a newbe to list. Had my truck for 1 1/2 years bought it second hand. Put guages on and trans temp. Milage 85k klicks. When lift pump guage went on read 15 at idle. After getting back from Mexico the Lift pump presure idles at 10 and runs as low as 2-3. Time to change it and if so what kind of replacement pump should I get?
Great forum and god I love this truck!!!:

Lightbulb I had the same problem,,,,,,,,,

Welcome to the site AMBO-T,,,,,,
My 99 went exactly the same way,,,,, but it started idling @ 9psi and 4-5psi @ WOT with about 47k on the clock! Since mine was still under warranty (5yr/100k), it was replaced with the latest updated pump# from DC at the time. My idle psi went back to 15 and no lower than 9psi @ WOT.
I then installed the Wildcat Max-Flow fuel line upgrade and my pressure increased to 16psi @ idle and doesn't drop below 11 @ WOT, even after adding the EZ box. The truck has just tripped 80k and still going strong.
If you do a search on lift pumps,,,,,,,,, you'll find more threads that will cover adding pusher-pumps and the new FASS system as well. A lot depends on how modified the truck is going to be and how much fuel you need to push versus how much you want to $pend. So far,,,,,, mine is doing fine for my needs. However, this may not be the case if I decide to move up to bigger injectors in the future.

I have a PE 4200. I have 19 psi at all times other than level 5 at wot and it drops to tiny 14 psi. I have had it for about 20,000 mile s and its really great piece of mind. I wired it up so the ecm controls it at startup. Not ever a hard start. Any way if I ever need a lift pump the performeance engineering 4200 pump is way cool.

AMBO-T:

Welcome to the DTR Website!

"RATTLINRAM" has already given you some excellent information
and advice! If your fuel pressure is getting down to 2-3lbs.
you need a new lift pump! I have already had three on my
2002 Dodge CTD and the truck only has 40,000 miles on it!
(Of course, I am pushing the limits of the fuel system too! )

Cummins and Dodge say that the fuel pressure should not
get below 8lbs. and IMO, never lower than 5lbs.!
FYI, the part number for the newer/updated Dodge Lift
Pump is: #5080885AA. Sorry, but I don't have a price
on it. I want to say around $120.00-$140.00. A Cummins
Dealer is usually cheaper than your local Dodge Dealer!

Thanks for the great advice guys!!! Will get a new updated pump tommorrow and change the filter too. Thanks for the part number will phone Cummings and see if it`s cheeper than Dodge dealer.
I mostly just pull a trailer 32feet and carry a 8 foot camper camper arround. It`s my main ride so could put a chip in it for a little more power. That new lift pump is working for you so should do the trick for my power needs !! Thanks again

the pe 4200 pumps are not that good of a set up,you must of got lucky cause i installed one and they went thru 2 of them, after talking with them at product engineering they said these pumps are not designed to work with the diesels and told us to send them back and they gave back the purchased price of the pump, they do work great when they do work though, there are a few good pumps out there that will work with the same wiring as the system you speak of,just a lil info to help guys, hope you keep having the luck with your 4200
