lift pump options
I have been reading all I can about my new truck and have learned so much from this site it's great. Now I want to upgrade the fuel system but can't spend the $$$ for the FASS yet. I read a post some where about adding the carter 8psi pump at the tank to lift fuel to the stock lift pump. In the system after the 8psi pump they added a Stanadyne FM100 Prefilter. This system sounds prety good and I would like to copy it. Does anybody know where I can get the parts (Canada) and how to wire the second pump so the truck is not hard to start. Has anybody had experiance with this setup.
If you plan on upgrading to the FASS or something like it later on, I would just save the money for it. It would save you some money instead of payin twice. I'm saving my money for the Air Dog system, in hopes my LP won't go out till then. But it's up to you, just my 2 cents.
Shawn,
How's it goin' eh?
Nice to see fellow Canadians on the forum. You might want to fill in your sig so that folks know what they're trying to help with.
BDR's advice makes sense. Like him, I'll be doing the same only for a FASS.
Don't know where you are exactly, but I have found Heath at hotroddiesel.com very knowlegable and resourceful with after market goodies and mods. If I remember correctly, he has something in a kit similar to what you are looking for.
He's in the Lindsay Ontario area but services anyone, anywhere. Maybe worth a try
Good luck

Thanks for the info guys I will keep saving my penies for some sort of a fix to the stock setup. I will try the signature and see if it works below. I haven't used forums much so I am still learning. (but quikly).
I am still reading up on the Fass and the rass? (the engine driven fuel pump) but haven't made my mined up yet. I heard the Fass will heat the fuel in the tank up more so if you are down to the last bit of fuel in the tank, is this true? Diesel fuel if you heat it up makes it thiner, and to thin means less lube= bad pump. Still have lots to learn so keep it comeing and I will keep reading as much as I can.
Thanks
Shawn

I've been looking at the RASP too and liking it. But like you, I have to save the money to do it at the price of 4 lift pumps.
Its probably worth it if your gonna keep it for ever.
Don't know if you have it but here's the web site.

shawn085 nice to hear from another Canuck where in Can are ya?
Anyway the part # for the Carter pusher is P4070 I got it from Lordco for $70 and installed it inline about a 18" from the tank,(comes with bracket) used a relay and pulled power from the factory lift pump wire Bingo 19#s idle 13#s WOT comp on 5x5
So for right now $70 is a quick fix for FP but it wont address the air removal the fass does. Also you might want to make a rubber gasket to shield some of the vibrations as it pretty noisy just bolted to the frame. Its worth doing for now IMHO
Good luck
