My 98.5 24 valve had a pin that was part way out, I pounded it back in and tabbed it. FYI.

All I am saying is that the "left over" cases from the 12 valve engine, being used on the 24 valve, is not possible ... they will not support the use of a VP44. If Cummins screwed up and didn't fix the problem when they retooled, like they said they did, then there could very well be a problem. I find it hard to believe that they would not have addressed it, but believe what you want to believe. I'm not worried about mine!

Let me find the thread, it was a P-pump 24 valve thread, and I'll post a link.

Here it is: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ghlight=p-pump

Just when I felt like that was one issue I wouldn't have to deal with . I've read other posts that also refer to a KDP problem on early 24v models???

Don't be going high and to the right on us, calm down and research it. I'm quite happy knowing mine is fine!

I've done the KDP tab on several 12Vs and also on 2 24Vs from early production dates where the KDP had worked out until it was protruding from the surface about 2 mm. (Which to me is a sign of no shoulder being present. )
I do not know of any way to verify whether the case is updated with a neck or shoulder or not until the cover is removed and the dowel pin hole is inspected.
The probability of having the "dangerous" case seems to get lower for the later production dates.

Just my 2c

I don't think there is enough room for the pin to fall out if the "boss" is present. The pin will just hit the timing cover? In other words, the pin has to travel farther to fall out because the boss holds it longer. That is what I always assumed, I could be wrong.

In any event I took a punch and dimpled the hole on mine. It ain't goin no where.

I was just looking on BD's website and I noticed they had a KDP kit for 12V motors and 24V motors.......so I guess it must have happened on a few 24V's. My guess is the early early 24V's were the canidates. Glad mine is a 2001, cuz I'm not to worried about.......hopefully they fixed that by the time mine was born

Only a small % of the 53's crack, relocating the LP is a very good thing, I would only check the KDP if you have a oil leak around the shaft seal, or timing case. If it really bother's you just buy the kit & do it. 4-5 hours you'll be done and know for sure. The kit is cheap.

Drive it like you stole it.
