Just take a hammer and a punch and peen the case over it. That's the Cummins fix.

I take it this is for your 98 24 valve? If so, post your findings (new or old case), I'd be interested in hearing what you discover when you open her up!

piperca, It has an old case, Ive heard of old cases on trucks new as 2000. I ended up making a tab, out of some heavy gauge sheet metal I had lying around. You had better open up yours if you havent already.

While on this subject does the damper go on in a certain position? I had mine marked but turned the engine over some when I was removing my injector pump. It surpised me that there was not a key for it. Thanks
