KDP in 24 valve

I know this has been discussed and debated....but, I've seen no reliable statistics on the liklihood ?

So...How many 24 valvers out there ( without a jig or tab fix ) have had the KDP problem...i.e., the pin fell out of the hole ?

Last question...I'm in Panama City, Florida...anybody know of someone relatively close ( and cheap ) who does either fix ?

I am interested in this as well, as I have just purchased a 24 valve.

I talked to a guy locally that said he had worked on a 24 valve that had the dowel pin take a ride through the gear train, and it was not a pretty sight. It cost him about $2k to repair. Things like this get me paranoid.

Is there a nice online how to of how to fix it? Does anyone know of someone who has had the pin do damage while still under the Cummins 100k waranty? Was it covered. I guess my question should be, should I just not worry about it until I hit the 100k mark?

I would do it so it's one less worry. Like we don't have enough to worry about w/ our year. Mine was done a year ago w/ about 250k on the odometer and the pin had not moved. I pulled the cover and tabbed it.

I also have the 98.5 24 valve.

What else am I suppose to be worring about on my engine. I haven't checked yet, but if it requires bad luck to own a 53 block you can bet even money that I have one.

98.5's 53 block and KDP thing huh?

Anyone in the St. Louis area with the talent and a jig?

Well the TPS on the straight geared trucks are WAY over priced.

I 'm not going to jinx myself by mentioning a number on some block!

I Pass Gas,

You dont have to worry about the KDP.....98.5 and 99's are the 24V's affected by the KDP problem.....by 2000 or 2001 all the cases were switched over to the blind hole design.
