Just sharing VP44 issues
Some info, I recently posted asking for help about losing prime on Cummins Forum. Truck has been sitting for two years waiting for a new engine due to a 53 block that cracked with over 150,000 Miles on it. (so they do crack with over this mileage).
Built new engine with a 56 block and whats in my signature and got it running only to lose prime when shut off, and had another strange condition, the lift pump would push fuel out of the injector lines when they were cracked and engine wasn't running. checked for fuel leaks like everyone recommended and even changed out injectors and nothing fixed the problem. Took VP off and sent it to Industrial Injection, Pump had forty thousand miles on it. They tore it apart and this is what they found, just thought everyone should know. I asked them to send my pics.
You should also know that this truck had two stroke oil added to every tank to help with lubrication.....Hmmm, I wonder what else we should do or I should do to help the new pump last.

They call this plastic piece a diaphragm, and they told me that they are known to crack when air gets into the system. They replaced it and tested the pump only to find that it still didn't work properly and tore it back apart for a more detailed inspection.

They found some wear on the housings that was allowing the fuel to bleed down and lose prime upon shut down. They said that they didn't know why the wear happened but it could have had a very small scuff mark when it was originally built and got worse over time, and allowing it to sit allowed some varnish to collect and exacerbated the problem....Who knows. Needless to say the pump was not rebuild-able and I had to purchase a new rebuilt one.
So it is possible to have prime issues caused by the VP, they also said that they have only seen this once before.
The new pump should be here tomorrow and if it gets here early enough I should have the truck running.
This truck also has the air separation system on it from Mopar mans site.

This is a great mod and I believe that this should be on all VP trucks.
It's also great for changing the fuel filter, you no longer have to bleed the injectors.

It's nice that these guys can repair a pump instead of just replacing it. How much do they charge to repair and for a replacement. Thanks
PS my guess is you are in Canada, s that right? I am in Newmarket but will look up Industrial Injections.

Sad but, my 01 with 47,000 miles sits for long periods. About a month ago (after the truck sat unstarted for over a year) I got a bug up my a _ _ and plugged in the block heater, charged the batteries, cycled the ignition key 2 times to kind of do a quick prime on the fuel syst. I hit the key to start it and it barely made 1 revolution and it fired right off. Let it run for over an hour while wasing it and driving it and parked it back in the pole barn. I couldn't believe it started that quick.
When i get back to driving it more often I'll be using the Standyne fuel addative. I think I have only run about 5 gallons of Ultra low Sulfur fuel thru it.
Stanadyne Performance Formula Fuel Additive 38565
Stanadyne Lubricity Formula Diesel Fuel Additive- 1 Pint
Thanks for the information on the filters
