ISB 275 engine in the Dodge...

There were several members that were interested in what this engine would create in the Dodge, which is the reason for this post. Suggestions and further information is really helpful. I spent some time with Cummins and literature from Cummins and have arrived at the following specs for the engine. The truck drew some attention at Cummins who were interested in it.

The best that we could put together that I have assembled in the truck, is that it is the same as an ISB 275 engine, which was designed to run the 275 injectors, hence the less amount of smoke due to cam design. The engine in stock form is rated for 275 HP at 2500 rpm, which is the max RPM for the stock engine. Peak Torque of 660 at 1600 RPM.

Mods to the engine as it is installed in the truck include the 3300-RPM pump, ported ATS exhaust, EZ with boost elbow, and Scotty II. Knowing how HP is computed, the engine at higher RPM would have a higher HP number, but of course no higher torque other than what the EZ may produce. I have no idea if the characteristics of the EZ would be the same on this engine, probably not. Considering that the original engine was 460 Torque, this engine alone is a vast improvement on pulling power.

I have 1000 miles on it of which right at 850 is heavy pulling. The engine continues to pick up pulling torque, and in the area of 2000 RPM it has a strong improvement over the original engine with the same mods and injectors. The engine is louder up front and in the cab, noticeably so. The exhaust has a deeper tone, a little louder, and likes the lower RPM running, different enough for two auctions to comment on how it sounds good, having heard the truck for two years of running in and out with the straight pipe. Got a couple of comments that it even looks bigger, which is only due to the mid-truck valve cover, must be worth a few horse, ya think?

The fuel mileage is at least as good as before, the last tank, loaded heavy, last 100 miles at 75, 76 mph, with only 14 miles of bob-tail running, netted 341 miles on 28.9 gallons of fuel known to be true #2, no mix. That is just short of 12 mpg. Looks like that might even improve with a few thousand miles, or maybe I am just dreaming…. Driving just the truck, no trailer, looks to be not quite as snappy as the original engine with mods, especially in lower gears. They wind out seemingly faster. Still greatly faster than the original engine with no mods. Pulling loads, it takes a big hill to take it out of OD on the freeway at 70. Just never shift the thing. That’s it guys, I like it. I would not even think of putting the cam in unless the engine was being rebuilt, but it works.

Sounds like you have a winning combo there, keep us posted on how it does.
