Question Irritating Squeak?

When I'm driving at low speeds or over bumps I hear an irritating squeak coming from somewhere on the drivers side?! If I pull on the steering wheel, it "seems" to stop but I don't what the problem is!! Any clue as to what to tighten up or lube up... I'm all ears! Thanks!!

Tony, is it inside the cab or coming from the underside of the truck? I have had a constant squeak for a year now, that I can't find. Heard at slow speeds. Kind of follows the road surface.

Sounds like it's inside... under the dash or something... there was a thread on here a bit ago about it being from the shifter linkage maybe? Said something about lubing that up... but I'm not sure exactly where or what to lube or if that's even the issue here...

ps - My V10 Ram was doing that as well....

Here is an idea. Spray silicone on all the rubber gaskets around all the doors. I had a squeak and this did it for me.

Had the same problem, but everytime she got out, it went away!!

Anyways, mine turned out to be the sterring column mount on the dash. Snugged them up (don't really know if they actually moved), but the squeak went away.

Worth a shot...

If it is the linkage you can tell by placing the shifter in 1st gear. If the squeak quits you have the culprit. If that is it look under the truck. You will find a shaft that has a bracket that mounts to the body (just behind the tire) and the trans. This connects the column linkage to the valve body linkage. Use a fair amount of lube on each end of the shaft at the bushings, and the squeak should stop. As far as I know there isn't a fix for this problem yet, and it will come back from time to time.

a dealership told me my anoying squeak was comeing from broken spot welds that dodge has had a problem with. if you open the hood and look down below the hood hinge, inside the fender on the drivers side you can see the spot welds. mine have cracked.

just one more place to check if all else fails.

I've had this same squeak for about 2 years now. I've wasted an entire bottle of silicone spraying crap trying to get it to stop. I'm gonna try all of these things and see if it helps.

There is an updated parts package for the transmission linkage. It has a spring that holds tension on the crossbar where the plastic bushing is that squeeks. I've found that you lube it, then cut a small section of fuel line that will fit around the shaft you can spread the linkage out a little and wedge this piece of fuel line into place and then attach it with two wide zip ties. I'll try to get a pict posted tonight. I've done this mod to dozens of trucks with great success.

Tried this yesterday and sure enough, sounds like I've found the culprit

I'd like to see some pix, JBODY. I've been under there several times with lithium grease, but It doesn't seem to help. I have noticed that a trip thru a big puddle will usually silence it for a while. I guess it makes sense.

I dropped mine down into first coming home today over some bumps and didn't notice the squeak! Looks like that may be the culprit...

....another way to make it go away temporarily is if you drive along and rest your arm on the shift handle. The downward pressure seems to silence it too. You have no idea how long it took us to find this noise a few years ago!! I'll try to get the photos up tonight when the truck gets home......no I don't get to drive it .
