Installing new transfer pump today... advice?

Hey everyone... So, my new transfer pump came in last night. I am going to attempt to change this out this afternoon... anyone have any advice or tips for me for R&R of the transfer pump ini a 2002 ctd quad cab 4wd? It doesnt look that bad just that it is kind of in an awkward place... will it be best to attack this from the top or the bottom? Seems like from the bottom I may I have more room...

I am really hoping I cought this soon enough intime that my injector pump isnt trashed too... I guess I will start with this and see what happens?

After the job is done I assume I need to flash the ecm to get any codes out of there and then replug it in to see if any new ones or existing ones are there, right?

Thanks for the help guys.

Was your fuel pressure low? The cummins mechanic told me he changes them all from the top. I took a thick saddle pad and laid it on top of my engine so I could work halfway comfortable. I think it took a 10mm, 13mm, and 19mm socket. Be careful not to loose the banjo washers.

yes, low fule pressure accompanied by a p0216 code and some slight sluggishness in the pedal the past week or so...

thanks... I appreciate the tips... either way it doesnt look like a "comfortable job"

Remove two bolts on filter housing and lean it toward fender, did mine in less than an hour from top.

Speaking from experience....remove the dipstick...the handle breaks off when you accidentally hit it with your elbow...ahhh...not that I know from experience or anything...

Well, I finished the job last night and she is running much better! I have to be honest, getting to the front fuel line banjo blt SUCKED!!! I was inventing words as I would scrape my knuckles on the back of the fuel filter housing, scrape my arm on the mastercylinder... but after all the cussing and scrapes, it worked out well...

Now the question becomes, did I replace the transfer pump in time that my vr44 is still ok. I tooko the truck down the street to my buddies house and he plugged it in and cleared the 216's that were in there... now I guess I need to drive it a few days and plug it again later and see if it threw any new codes? Just driving it I can tell it runs better, no hesitations, crisper acceleration, etc... I am very happy now. Thanks to everyone who threw mw some advice...
