Question Ignition question

If you turn your key on/off three times and it does not show any codes or for that matter does nothing, I wonder if that means there is a communication problem somewhere. I have a scanner and I have 2 tranny codes but the odometer shows nothing? Anyone have any input on this.

it depends on the year of your truck. My 99 doesn't do the key trick either. I think it is 01's and up or maybe 00's.... for sure 01's and up though. What year is yours??

I have a 98, but what shovelhead said is that 99 models dont have that option so I not sure what years they put this option on.

According to the Hayne's service manual "On 1998/99 models you'll need an aftermarket scan tool to extract diagnostic trouble codes". The scan tool they're talking about is a OBD-II scan tool.

The '98.5 and '99 24 valve trucks don't do the "three Key Cycle" trick.
2000 and up will.
