If you have a D80 PLEASE HELP

I just replaced the D70 with a D80 and I found that the u-joint is the same but the rear drive shaft is to long for the D80.

Could someone provide me the measurements of the rear driveshaft center of u-joint to center of u-joint.
Thank you
Brian

bri7070,

What year truck do you have? 2WD or 4WD? Standard cab, extended cab SB or extended cab LB?

Its an 01 2500 4X4 QC long bed

Duner
I did not measure my drive shaft because it is too long to fit in. the D80 is longer in the snout than the D70.

I think Duner meant to measure from center of u joint coming out of T case to the center of U joint at axle. Then you will know for sure.

bri7070,

Sorry, I can't help, mine's not going to be the same ('02 QC 2WD short bed).
Hopefully someone else will measure up that has the same truck.

Crimedog,

I would measure it that way but being a QC long bed I have 2 driveshafts.

Also over on the TRD site someone posted that the length differ from 5 speed to six speed. with the 5 speed being the same as the auto.

Not material, just measure where the u joint is on the rear yoke to where the u joint is on the front of the shaft with the shaft in place. Take the shaft to a shop that cuts them and give them the measurement. Remember to have the front positioned properly to the carrier bearing. After they cut it, bolt it in.

Exactly what Haulin' said. The distance from the transfer case to the carrier bearing should not have changed. Install the front half and take your measurement from the middle u joint to the diff yoke. Should work great. I did this for a company years ago that stretched and shortened frames on big trucks. The driveline shop will make your shaft and balance it, it works great.
