Identifying Turbos

Okay, I hear talk of the HX35 and HX40 as stock turbos correct? Well atleast the 35... not so much the 40. Do I have the HX35 on my 02? And so I can keep from asking questions like these in the future... is there a website that tells the differences between the various years? Both the motor and the truck? I looked on here and cumminsdatabase figuring for sure I'd find what I was looking for. Perhaps I just didn't know where to look? Where do you identify what turbo it is by looking at it? I can't see anything designating which one it is on the housing.

Whats the difference between what ever turbo is on my truck and an HY35? I heard that the HY is a faster spooling but hotter running tubo. That faster spooling is what I'm really after. Could I swap them and be okay? I have gauges to keep an eye on things, inhale'n through a BHAF, and stacks are on their way to help exhale a little better.

My dads 95 never gets above 1200 and hes got bigger injectors, fuel plate moved forward on the stock turbo. I'd assume I'd run at safe temps right? Or wrong?

You should have the Hy35 with the auto. It only has a 9 sq.cm turbine housing, so it spools fairly fast, but doesn't put out much volume. You can tell by the way the turbo is assembled. The housing will be clamped together only as opposed to bolted together like the hx35. Some good info onhttp://www.hotroddiesel.ca/turbocharger_faq.htm

i agree about yours being an HY35 since you have an auto, the HX35 was on the manual equipped trucks..the wastegate acuator setup is also different between the two.

Noticed you don't have any mods in your sig. Is this right? You need more fuel to spool better even with a hy35. Get a chip. The Hy35 has good boost to 28psi, then it chokes, but you need more fuel to get there.Get a better lift pump too so you don't crater the VP44. Spend some time in the performance forum and fly a few threads, you'll get some opinions...most good, some just opinions. Be careful....You start out wanting better spool up and wind up with a set of twins under the hood! Good Luck.

My sig will remain that way even when my trucks put'n down 450 rwhp... just like to keep my sig simple. But all the truck has now is a BHAF and muffler delete. 5" stacks on on thier way. Is there a 4" down pipe for the HY35?

I'm not going to do any programmers or injectors until I get the GDP lift pump system. Thats my main concern at this point. Once I know my fuel system is sufficient, then the power will come.

Oh and btw, the power bug hit me years ago when my dad got his 95 12V.

the hx35 and hy35 downpipe are the same. And yes you can purchase one just do a little searching around. Alot of vendors carry them.
