You can get either at any autoparts store, Fuel stop any where ... normally labled starting fluid, Just use a very small squirt!

And yes, I agree this is most likely a good sign the pump has died, But before saying its dead , you should check all routes possible!

Spray a small shot in the intake, or in the turbo, Not a huge burst, Spray it while someones starting the engine, If it fires and runs fine, Great, If it runs and dies, THEN look into your fuel system!

Spraying starting fluid with the heater grid on can cause an explosion in the intake(Not a good thing). If you use starting fluid unplug the trigger wires for the heater grid fisrt.

Also when checking for fuel with the lines cracked don't crank the engine just tap the starter and the fuel pump will run for a 20-30 secs.

If you have the original VP44 and you had the wire tapped when it failed, I would say the pump is toast. I failed my original pump with a comp on the first 5x5 pull, as have alot of others.

The chance of an explosion is rare, Thats why i recomend using a small amount. Bumping the key will only show fuel flow pre pump, Very Small amount through the pump , most would go back to the tank.

Alright the one question i have is, when i am getting 18psi off the output from the fuel filter, and crank the engine over for 10 seconds, should fuel spray out of the 6 ports on the back of the vp44, or should it only dribble out of 3 not 6 and barley put any fuel out, i heard that if you have the lines off, you can spray and hit the firewall?

The fuel should come out with some force.

Some info for the earlier VP-44 pumps.

BOSCH VP44 INJECTION PUMP AND LIFT PUMP FAILURES EXPLAINED
http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/inject...pfailures.html

"" The next most common MECHANICAL failure is that the rotor seizes in the distributor section of the pump. I should note here that all previous rotary style pumps have had this problem too, to varying degrees. The most common cause and most accepted reason for this failure on rotary pumps is lack of lubrication due to running out of fuel or the possible lower lubricity of the newer low sulphur fuels.

Additional info from Blue Chip, from another source.
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...rformance.html

"" The other reason I think injection pumps fail due to lubrication is many people say their truck stopped running on deceleration and not full throttle. The VP44 pump stops delivering fuel, shuts off all fuel, on deceleration which none of their other units do. This starves the rotor and distributor for fuel and therefore lubrication.

Not pushing their "Pump tester", but the info about the #9 fuse is interesting.

"" We at Blue Chip have invented a pump tester that hooks up to the same wires on the pump and can tell you in a very short time whether or not there are actual fuel signals going to the solenoid and therefore determining if the pump is working correctly. The only exception to this is if fuse number 9, in the fusebox on the left side if the dash, is blown; in other words, to diagnose a pump failure verify that fuse number nine is not blown and hook up our tester.

A 5x5 run with my Juice killed my pump, Had it floored and goin good then all of a sudden it died, it restarted and ran for about 10 sec. then died and wouldnt restart. ckd for codes and found 1688 and 1689. My VP was dead in the water. Have you scanned for codes? My cel lite never came on but there was codes set.

More force than a dribble. However much force it takes to fire an injector.
