How to take apart the transfer case
How to take apart the transfer case
Its a 241 dhd and I want to replace the tailshaft housing gasket. Ya know, the 50 dollar metal one
I also have the snap ring because i've heard it's easy to damage the old one taking it out. My question is, because I haven't looked at it yet, how do you take the tailshaft housing off? I've had the driveshaft on the ground and the 5 or six bolts out but it's was just stuck there. What's the trick?
Thanks

Yeah the main case is rtv but the tailshaft housing is not. There is a 50 something dollar metal gasket there. I tried the rtv on it just seperating it part of the way and it didn't work.
After you take out all the bolts for the tailshaft housing, there is a rubber plug on top, remove that and there is a snap ring under it, really difficult to get to with the t-case in place, I finally ended up taking my t-case out. I just took the old metal gasket, cleaned it, then put a good coat of rtv on both sides then reasembled, never had a leak.
