how much rear diff gear oil?
My 2002 service manual states the rear diff with limited slip 2wd Dana 80 requires 6.3 pts (3.0 L) gear oil and the 4wd requires 9.5 pts (4.5 L). Is there a difference between 2wd and 4wd rear diffs? I had mine parked beside a friends 4wd, almost the same truck as mine except a 4wd. Anybody know why, or is this a misprint in the service manual? Just trying to find how much of the expensive synthetic gear oil I need to get, I’ve done a search and noticed a few different recommended quantities. I'll probably go ahead and get 6 qts anyways. ;D
Re:how much rear diff gear oil?
I looked it up on dodgeram.org, and it says:

4x2 6.8 pints
4x4 10.1 pints

Which is interesting. Makes me wonder what the difference actually is. Bigger cover? Bigger axle tubes?

Didn’t measure, but by a quick visual inspection the 2wd and 4wd rear diffs appear to be same size, diff cover axle tubes every thing. I could not notice any difference.
