horrible fuel mileage (i think)
ok guys haven't ever really gotten **** about my fuel mileage before but the past two tankfuls have been horrible.
12.2 mpg........
now i realize that its always worse in the winter, my driving is about 90% city, and to be honest Ive got a pretty heavy foot
but 12?!
just seems really low to me.....
if someone can just give me a few quick opinions on this id really appreciate it.
thanks
jeff
edit: on the first tank which i got 12 mpg i was running powerservice white bottle. didnt use it the next time and still got the low mileage.....

I hear if you keep the rpms below 2k that your mileage increases a bit, but being this is mainly city driving it may not apply as well because the biggest thing is the turbo. I know for sure that when I'm using my turbo that the mileage really suffers, I try to stay off of it but it isn't always possible (car is 75hp N/A or 125hp turboed weighing in at 3400lbs). Are you sure you don't have any fuel leaks? My winter driving hasn't cost me a whole lot but I do notice it a little bit, 1mpg at most.
nope, no fuel leaks, am definately sure of that.
i do keep it out of overdrive till about 45 mph though to tryn keep the tranny alive for a bit longer........however ive been doing this since i bought the truck a year and half ago......

I see you've got bigger tires than stock.
Is your odometer corrected? or are you figuring in your head?
I'm averaging 13 on winter fuel with 34.5 inch tires and corrected odometer.
Auto tranny with 3.55 rear and of course 4X4.
This is all hand figured of course.
Overhead says I'm averaging 11.5.

phox, this is mileage im getting by doing the math (calculator that is, i hate math
)
got the formulas and such from
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ire+calculator
i have been reading back through the archives though and it seems this isnt that bad given my driving habits......
might change my fuel filter a little sooner though and see if that helps an
thanks for the replys yall

Be sure to check for boost leaks,,, and it's possible that you have a cracked Exhaust Manifold.
Check your Fuel pressure, then, replace your filter if you haven't in the last 1,000 miles. (The reason to check your pressure first, is, in case of a dead LP, you can still get to where you need to go to replace the LP)

thanks Merrick. plannin on the filter change and checkin the pressure as soon as the ice/rain stops. guess ill go from there.
might try a different station too, maybe the usual ones got some bad fuel (normally has alot of commercial vehicles filling up there though)
hopefully its got nothin to do with the manifold though
thanks
