Re:Horrible fuel mileage
Made a 300+ mile round trip yesterday. Rain, mountains, 65 degrees, and 1100 lbs of tanden disc in in the back of the truck. Averages 19.6 mpg.
I've noticed that when the temp gets above 60 or so, the mileage really improves.
I'm running 285's with a 3.55 rear and auto.
Re:Horrible fuel mileage
A slightly taller tire would help a bit.
I had the same truck, and it is now owned by another member who's a close friend.
My best open road, at about 2100 rpm avg. = 18.5 mpg, calculated, and adjusted.
My avg. in town = 14.5-15 mpg.

His avg. in town is a bit lower, and has dropped to a low of 11ish. He carries more weight daily, and sometimes travels shorter distances. There is also the driving style difference to consider.

Bottom line is that the range can be quite broad, due to a variety of factors. Fuel economy is, however one of many factors that can indicate problems, so it's good to keep an eye on it.
Re:Horrible fuel mileage
Those were uncalculated miles BigK, but they still were not good. I have to stop working so close to home. Whats wrong with my driving style. I have places to go and beers to drink. ;D
