Holset HX 35 Rebuild

Has anyone personally done one? I have a holset hx35 that i just pulled off my truck that i want to rebuild. I am mainly looking for a good rebuild kit for it. The wheels look fine i mainly need to a new set of bearings and seals.

I have NOT done one, but I looked it over in the service manuals on Holset's website and it doesn't look to bad. Just in case you don't have it, heres the link to the Holset service manuals, free to download from Holset's website:

Just be sure you have a way to manually shut the air off to the engine the first time you start it. If you have something like a seal in wrong or backwards you could have a runaway. I have a friend this happened to. Rebuild time! My cousin is Service manager @ Portland Freightliner and he says they always start them the first time with the air cleaner unattached and a piece of plywood to cover the turbo intake in case that happens.

Good call. I had a turbo on a gas engine just go bad. Problem is it was driving down the road.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Check out www.htturbo.com, they seem to have the cheapest kit, and its a very complete one. I've been told that as long as you take your time, keep all the parts very clean, and mark your wheels in relationship to the shaft when you take it apart (so the assembly doesn't wind up out of balance), it should be ok. Let us know how you make out if you choose to tackle it yourself. I think I'm gonna do mine this summer as my up and down play is horrible, and i've got a slight amount of in and out play as well.

Thanks afoulk. I have seen there kit before and i think that's who i will be going with is htturbo.com

There diagrams and info on the site is a big help too. I rebuilt a Grand National T-3 before so this should be fairly easy too.
