Holley Black surging problem

I just installed a new Holley Black a day ago down on the fram rail by the tank. The pump has began surging causing the preasure gauge to bounce between 12 and 22 psi. The pump ran fine right after I installed it but began doing this the very next time I started it. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Is the pump new? did you stretch the spring or did you get a heavier one from the hardware store? Are you running this as the sole lift pump or do you have the stocker in there too? Usually holleys do this when they are about to die a horrible death...

Yeah, this is a new pump and is the third holley pump that has been on my truck in about three years. The first two were blues that I had a guy at a performance shop put on for me. After the second one went out, I seen on this forum to take the screens out of the holleys which I dont think he did, so I decided to try a black (it sounded like they were recommended over blues and would directly fit in place of the blue) and take the screen out. The stock lift pump is gone too. As far as the spring, I'm not sure. Whats the ideal set up for the holley?
Im beginning to think the holley is not the way to go.

I wonder if you could have a leak on the suction side of the pump? It might not look wet but you might double check all the connections between the tank and the pump.

Just another vote for the Ebay ProComp black pumps. I run one and have a constant 14 psi at idle and never below 11PSI WOT. It is a little loud when temps drop below freezing, but that is due to fuel thickening, I am sure......Other than that. great product....

recently installed the holley blue + spin on baldwin filter set up. double hose clamped everything and running 22psi after stretching the spring. Still have the factory LP installed and running. Overall, a great set up.
