HO-SO pump swap

HO-SO pump swap
My SO pump puked on my 01 automatic from lift pump failure. I bought an HO pump off Ebay that was supposedly good. The thing ran fine accept for a "dead pedal" on cold starts and when you cruised at 50 mph and tried to accelerate. It would not respond right away, than just like if you turned on a switch it would take off and run great.
Had it sent in and there was an issue with it but not sure what it was.
Bosch says you can't swap pumps because they are timed different.
HO's seem more readily available used than SO pumps.
Don't want to be stuck with a pump I can't use. Has anyone swapped an HO onto an SO engine and had success?
I have been fighting this since July. Don't have the money now for a rebuilt pump, trying to go used to get back on the road.

There have been issue in swaping pumps back and forth and generally a HO to SO works so so. Other way no no.
I will say one more time:
Vp pumps can come in four versions.
1. Good pump on engine running with no codes being generated.
2. Pumps that are generating codes and will make good cores eventually.
3. Reman STOCK PUMP in a box with a warranty from a reputable vendor.
4. All others are CORES. This includes ones settng in garage off running engine. Good from a salvage yard without a warranty. Your buddies spare pump because he P pumped his. Used e-bay pumps. I took it off and new did not fix pump. Any used pump should be considered a CORE a purchased with that in mind.
If not covered by # 1 or # 3 it is a core.
