High egt after engine rebuild
High egt after engine rebuild
I was pulling heavy on a mountain in Tn several years ago and burned out nummber 6 piston ( two chips back to back too much timming ) had to bore the block to remove scoring but erver sence my egt has been running alot higher I am only running one chip now (lesson learnd) but it will hit 1000* even without a load just by hitting it hard. It worrys me because I just bought a new 5er and when pulling it home about 200 miles from home over some mountains I was having to back out to keep the temps down I'm still running 30 boost so it dont apear to be a leak on the turbo any ideas?
accepted max egt is 1350F(pre turbo) so if your under this you can run that temp all day all night and hurt nothing.
is possible that your overfuelling (leaky injectors) restricted intake (plugged air filter) or restricted exhaust,
also possible that your EGT gauge is faulty.
1000F on a hard WOT run is perfectly normal (safe side) most see much more than that.
best chip if your towing so heavy is one that can back down fuel, ie Edge J/A or ADR, these will keep your egt's in check for you.

New 275rv injectors during the rebuild 4" exaust from turbo and the air filter is clean and very large. Before the buid it would do good to hit 850* running it to death empty. I have a Edge that I removed I like the Super Chips better has more options. I wish there was a way to do a preasure test on the intake side to check for air leaks without running the truck. Kind of wandering if the waste gate is letting some leak past I am running a boost elbo with a boost fooler that has worked great for years but I may try to lock the waste gate in the closed position just to see if there is a diference.
Just a quik note when I burned out the piston I was only running about 1200* the mountain grade was a continues 5 mile streatch 8 percent I think now I can go past 1250* in a hury.
That's only true on a stock engine with stock timing. Timing is the killer, EGT's will look great, but piston temps will be off the charts. I have a scuffed cylinder on my 93 from sustained 1100*F EGT's pulling a trailer in the PA hills.
You are now running 275 injectors so you have more fuel= more heat you my need to up grade your turbo to handle the extra fuel all so you could have a drive pressure leak or your waste gate could be leaking internally causing you to have lower boost then you should have
All the mods I have now are the same as before rebiuld I just put a new set of injectors after the piston burn out just to be safe there the same as I had before. I can still hit 30psi by pushing the go petal truck still runs great no loss of power.
