Angry fuel pressure problems

i have a 01 ext cab 4x4 ctd i bought a fass150/150 and a hrvp44 now i am having trouble with the fass system. i just replaced the filters like i do every 25000 miles even though fass says you can run 50,000 miles before they need replaced. my problem is that use to i couldnt pull the pressure down at the pump below 18psi. it is now dropping down to 11psi with the peddle on the floor i am worried that i am going to cook my vp44. i have a fuel pressure gauge plugged into the side of the injecton pump to get the best reading. also the fass is drawing out of the factory tank hook up. i dont have the retrofitted in tank pump, so could the screen be plugged up in the tank or what please help!

I wondered about that on my truck. I had fuel pressure drop clear to 3 to 4 psi and my edge alarm was going off. I was really worried about it. I added some additive that is used to get water out of my fuel and it fixed the problem. The problem might be some bad fuel. Did it start right after you picked up fuel? The other thing might be a loose line allowing air into your system. 11 psi is not bad if it jumps back to 14 or so at idle.

Had a similar problem when I installed my FASS. I had already taken the tank pick up screen off of the bottom of the pick up, but I didn't realize that inside of the "barrel" that goes in the tank was another screen. I took the easy way out and eliminated the stock pick up, inside the tank, and installed a 1/2" drawstraw. Now, if my fuel pressure drops below 13 psi at WOT I change the FASS filters and I'm good to go.
Footnote: When I took the stock pick up screen (the cylindrical one) off and scraped it, it had something that resembled used chewing tobacco on it. I still don't know exactly what it was, but I am assuming that someone put it in the tank sometime before I bought the truck. At least, I hope it was put in there before I bought it.

thats true i looked at the in tank screen this weekend and it looked like somebody had taken my copenhagen can and plastered it all over the screens so i took those off and put hardware screen around the bottom of the in tank unit and ripped the screen and other filters out im not to worried about stuff getting into my fuel lines cause the fass will filter it out eventually i will get my brother to drill a hole in the tank to install a draw straw i cant drill holes in my baby its like a woman you **** her off and all hell breaks loose

There's a drawstraw that will fit directly into the pickup line port on the fuel tank, so no drilling required. Rare that the screen is plugged (unless you've been running heatintg oil, - might want to checkl to bad fuel

What you are seeing on the screen is Asphaltene. It is from the Diesel fuel, you can read all about it over the net. Had the same on mine when I took my module apart and installed a draw straw. The Racor will catch all that before it goes into my LP. They make additives to clean it. Not something that happens over night, but over the life of your truck from filling it up.
