High Egt

well i think i have high egts when just running normal with outside temp around 75 egt is around 600 and when i get on it not under tow i can see temps around 1100 and they go down as soon as i let off the fuel thanks for any help

Sounds normal to me as well. Is your thermocouple pre or post turbo?

yhanks i do have both my friend has a ford 7.3 with banks and he doesent see high temps but maybe he has pre but why would you have pre and not post

Because the pistons will melt down before the turbo will

For comparison my temps unloaded are 900-1000* and 1100-1200* max towing. Yep, pre-turbo is where the egt thermocouple s/b installed to obtain the most accurate reading. Adj or block your wastegate and/or add a 4 or 5" exhaust and you'll lower the egt temps 200* or so. When towing keep the rpms up and this will help push more air and keep things cool.
