Hey Dodge, how bout some help!

I just had the injector pump replaced while on vacation in Florida. Luckily it did not strand me on the side of the road and was still under warranty. My APPS has been acting up for the last 6 months. Resettting it is very temporary anymore so it is schedulled to be replace next week. In talking with the parts man at my local Dodge dealer, he told the computer tells him that Dodge sells 173 of these APPS assemblies per week! Now if that doesn't tell you there is a problem with the part, I don't know what does. How bout some help Dodge! The APPS should be identified as defective and covered under warranty until they can figure out a fix. I'm close to going back to gasoline. Price per gallon is a hell of lot cheaper.

Now factor in the number of drivers that purchase their replacement parts through Cummins instead of the dealer with their HUGE mark-up.......

Try reporting it here. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

www.nhtsa.gov

With enough reports, D/C might listen to them,....but I wouldn't hold my breath.

PS: It'll take a lot more than that to make me go back to gasoline

Theres a good formula for this kind of thing:

(P/u)q=R/E

Or spelled out is:
Price per unit <P/u> times the number of units sold <q> = Retirement Policy <R> for each Executive <E>.

APPS price

My dealer is going to charge me $374 for the APPS assembly. Can I get it cheaper from Cummins? If so, what is the going price?

Different folks, different strokes.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with your '99.

My '99 has been running good up til this year when the Injection Pump (a known weak pump year) decided to give up the ghost.
85,000 miles with basic routine maintenence.

"I Will NEVER buy a part from the Dodge Dealer unless it is not available ANYWHERE else on the planet."

An Apps from Cummins costs around $350 ... not much difference from the Dodge dealer. Ebay is the place to get it, you'll probably pay around $200.

I know what you mean about the dealer, though. Yesterday, because all the local injection shops were closed, I called Dodge for a price on an IP (thought I'd get the job done yesterday ) and they quoted me $2150 . Cummins wasn't much better at $1895 ... where do these guys get off!!!

I bought the best truck on the market to do what I wanted to do, as is with everything stuff goes wrong from time to time,if you can find a truck that never breaks down then let the rest of us know. I will never buy anything from know on with a gas engine, not even a lawn tractor, wife's new jetta TDI is getting 45-48 mpg, my cummins gets better mileage loaded than gassers do empty. I've had two LP's go bad before the FASS went on, lost an IP in october, put a junk p-pump on that was bought as a good running pump, lost a 2nd hx-40 which destroyed #6 piston, and when we pulled the engine to replace found a crack starting on my 53 block. After all this I still have less time and money in the truck than I would have had if I had bought a inferior gas engine/tranny/axle combo and worked it the same way I did my cummins. My truck dyno'd at 450/998, lets see any gas motor tow at or above 25k gvw and up to 38k for 60k+ miles without haveing some problems

At the moment I am driving a rental gasser. HATE it. Throttle response is lame, less than 13 MPG, no torque...

But sorry to hear about your problems, just don't give up on it, you may still decide that it is a great truck. But you may not, everyonce and a while, one rolls off the line that is not on par with the rest of them. Unfortunately. Just don't give up on diesel power.

I agree. I will never go back to a gasser! Sure I've had problems but like 24valvepuller was saying. There is no way to get a gasser to get as much power, comfort, and MPG unless you pay twice or 3 times as much more than we pay to get these Cummins to run like this. And still you won't get the same kind of awesome power. In my personal opinion the best 24v year models are 01 and 02. Those are the only 2 year models I will buy. Then there is always a 12v. I had one and loved it! I will never go back to Dodge to get a part either unless it's not availible anywhere
else in the universe! All dodge will do is screw you!

There's only 2 reasons I can think of. 1) Four wheel discs 2)The VP is a little better than '98-'00.

Better IP & LP. Careful though... not all 01's came with 4 wheel disc brakes.
02 are best, IMO of the 2nd gen 24v trucks. Saying best of all 24v trucks includes all third gens. Not sure I would go that far... but maybe?

Yes fellows I guess I'm frustrated .I've been driving a 3500 dump that I can't get over 2400 r.p.m.'s for a year. When I drive it I have to keep my eyes glued on the tack.Runs fine until you hit the bad spot then dead thottle.Fuel pressure great.Could a truck run for a year with a good lift pump and a bad injector pump?No codes last time it was checked,I need to have it checked again.
I might consider selling the '99' and moving back to a good low milage '98' 12 valve.Got to do something spring is coming with mulch and dirt delivers a plenty.
Thanks fellows,
tony
