HELP won't shift out of first gear

My stepson is stationed at camp Lajeun in North Carolina. He has a 1998.5 that is bone stock. We added gauages for safety. This morning the truck would not shift out of first gear. No codes have been thrown. Can some one please help.
Does any one know of a good shop in Jacksonville that can help him out?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Do you have reverse? Will it upshift if you take on up to higher than normal speed in low and then let up on pedal?
Sounds as if gov presuure solenoind is messing up. May need KD band adjustment! Both these are easy repairs unless one is mechancially challenged. And then it may need a full blown overhaul.

You may need to change the speed sensor on the transmission. A bad one will not let the trans up-shift. Thanks Steve B.

The speed sensor did it. Thanks for you help. BTW I'm Cashless's stepson and my truck broke down in a place where I couldn't get to a computer so he helped me out.
