help with 24V 98 Modle

I have a 98 24V cummins. I have a couple problems with it and i was seeing if yall could help me out. For starters this vehicle was slightly wrecked. it was jsut in the ditch. then it sat for abuot a year i think the man said. Well we bought the truck. it runs ok for a while then it will shut off. what happenes is it is like there is no throttle response. going down the road it will lose all power. i finnaly got it to do it sitting still. it dotn chut the motor off there is jsut no response at all. then in about 10 seconds it will coem back and drive normal. i have also noticed that sometimes it will take off with lots of power like my 97 Cummins. both trucks are 5spds. what could this problem be. 2ndly. in 5th gear i can hear a little bit of noise. not sure what kind yet but i can hear it. lol. also there is a bit of a roar or some type of noise from the engine in the power band. next the air condiotion comes out of the defrost vents. this also happens on my 97. also on my 97 i have noticed that if i mistakly leave the windshield wipers on and cut the truck off i cant get them to work for a couple days. then it will come back. any help woudl be appreciated. thanks. bye the way the 92 modle cummins we have runs great. but still it dont pull that trailer like the 97 does. 3 dually diesel trucks in the drive way. and Moms little p-***** Chrysler 300C. but its fast too

Dead Peadal?

Are you getting any codes?

Maybe TPS, more likely bye-bye VP-44...

Ok for the dead pedel: It could be a couple of things. If it only does it for a short period of time then comes back on, check the vehicle temp next time it happens. If it is temperature related it could easly be an electrical problem (more heat = more resistance in the wires = computer getting confused). Another thing to check would be the fuel pressure. If that is constant then you hopefully dont need to worry about the VP44. If it is not with in tollerances, well... go put the truck back in the ditch... Thats a painfull repair.

If you are getting noise in 5th, it could be some grinding of the gears there or just noise from them. Check your oil level in the tranny and perhaps replace the oil.

AC one is an easy one. You have a Vacuum leak in your system. It happened to me and thats the only reason I think its easy, cuz someone told me what was wrong and now I know. When you loose vacuum your air will only come through the defrost. Check your hoses in the engine compartment. The one that was doing it to me was the one coming out of the vacuum pump (right next to power steering pump) the hose had come loose and was dangling, I plugged it back in and everything worked fine. If you cant find it, take it to a shop and ask them to do a vacuum test on it, that will show them where the leak is.

As for the wipers I will see what I can figure out with the wiring diagram of that circuit. Sounds like a bad switch or connector somewhere in the system but I will have to look over the circuit first before saying anything. I will ask my instructor about it too (I am in basic electricity at LTI right now).
