Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im working on my 2001 ram diesel for surge a problem.im looking at the lift pump first.i dont have my fuel pressure gauge yet but i wanted to get this repair going.first i pulled my filter to check for fuel flow from lift pump i turned key to the on position and got nothin .so i bumped it to the start pos .nothing .so did all kind of stuff with the key .notin.so pulled the plug and tried to do a volt check but its hard when your by yourself so i cant get a volt check now but i m sure i got power.so my question should there be fuel coming in to the filter housing when i cycle the key?also i started truck with the lift pump unplugged for a minute and ran just like it did with it plugged in.so im guessing the pump is bad.
any help would be GREAT.
THANKS
MATT

When you bump the starter do you hear the lift pump running? It should run for around 30 seconds, so you'll have plenty of time to get near the pump to listen.

I wouldn't drive my truck without a lift pump. Do you have a Cummins shop near you? If so, get a ride over there and pick one up tonight. It takes about an hour or so to change. I think NAPA sells a Carter pump that will work as well.

Sure, but it would be quicker to get a new pump and save the pusher for a day when you have the time to do the work. It took me the better part of the day, off and on to install my Holley pusher.

how did you do it?i was thinking mounting in a safe place and just cutting the supply line and running rubber hose to it.and then put a relay in for the power on only when truck is running.am i even close or is there a certain way it has to be done?

Pretty much the same way, but I ran all new rubber line. I thought you were in a hurry to get the truck running, that's why I said just get a new pump for the time being.
