Hard starting

I've just replaced my VP-44 but I'm still having starting issues. It'll start but it cranks more than it should. Air leak between filter and IP? Any ideas about a good way to check or fix? I have the Vulcan big line kit and good fuel pressure.

Check your starter. If it's slow to crank and then finally starts it could be the starter contacts. Replaced mine last week and now it fires right up. Lots of compression required to start.

Try these folks http://www.the-electric-connection.com/contact-us.php
The owner has a very good reputation locally. He, also, runs a automotive, electrical repair shop.
They are about 10 miles from me and I just used them to rebuild my starter. I had bad contacts and the return spring for the gear had collapsed allowing the gear to "rub" the flywheel.

Thanks for the replies. I replaced my starter in Nov. I'm thinking it's sucking air from somewhere.

If it is just the VP that yo replaced, there are only 14 lines to check for air leaks. Also, the check valve on the VP return line has been known to leak slowly and cause the pump to lose the fuel it normally would keep inside. The check valve is on the return line fitting of the VP-44.

I would go with a leak also if it gets harder to start the longer it sits (up to a certain length of time, of course).

Thank you guys for the replies. I took the starter to Autozone and it would trip the breaker on their little machine. I took it to the rebuilder i bought it from he handed me a new one. Now if I walk toward the truck with the key in my hand it starts! Thanks again this is the best site on the web!
