Hard to start when warm
Hard to start when warm
If the truck is driven to town and shut off for over 15 minutes, but less that 2.5 hours it is sometimes hard to start. If it been off for a long time it always starts right up with just a blip of the key. The IP is also pretty loud(duh!), well maybe louder than normal, hard to tell. Does this sound like a lift pump problem? Or any other ideas. If its the lift pump, what is the least expensive way for me to make the repair myself? F.A.S.S. looks good but too much $$ for my budget right now.
You should get a fuel pressure gauge right away and see what is happening. You can get a cheap one into the fuel filter canister just to see if it is working. If its low you may have burned up the IP already. If you have never replaced it, its gone.
u can bring it to cummins, they have a handheld pump tester that plugs directly into the vp's ecm. the old time test would be to pour cold water over the pump to cool it down, and if it starts right up then its a bad pump, but ive heard that u can run the risk of cracking the aluminum housing.
