Hard start when very warm from pulling?

I wonder why whenever I pull my 5000lb boat and stop for a few minutes, the 98 is harder to start. Usually a second or two on the key and she fires like normal. But when the temps outside are above 70, restarting takes about 3-4 seconds to start. Almost like an over fuel condition....any ideas?
(definetly a warm outside temp and a warm engine temp) By the way, all temps are indicating well within range.....

No magic in the cylinders, I'm thinking the fuel shutoff solenoid is getting hot and sticking a little.

So does that mean that I'm the only one with that weird issue? I was hoping someone else may say that it happend to them too.

I dunno if you are or not. Another idea that occurs to me is that the rubber hose in the fuel system may be starting to develop the cracks that let air in and make it hard to start. This generally affects trucks that have sat up for a while not running, but I suppose it's possible they could go temperature sensitive. Another possibility is the overflow valve on the injection pump. I've never had to mess with that, but I read that it can cause hard start problems. It's replaceable, too.

My 97 does this too. I am thinking it may be the shutdown solenoid sticking a little. Probably from me washing it too much. Try pressing the throttle down and then letting it up completely before starting it. That seems to eliminate my problem but not real sure why. The pedal always has some resistance the first time I press it with the engine off. If I turn the key "ON", then press the throttle down, release, then "start", the engine fires quickly and without problems. If I just jump in and turn the key, it takes about 4-5 seconds to fire off. Any suggestions as to why it does this? Also, it smokes blue when it is first fired up in the morning, but I have been told this is normal. My 91 did not do that as bad. I just drive it and enjoy it. Still learning what is normal with the P pump.

Just before my fuel return line cracked, mine was taking a number of revolutons before starting. I think v8440 may be on to it.

You know, as far as the OF valve goes....been there done that. I bought the one that Marty sells. I really don't like it much. It's seems like a backyard attemp to save money from a real one from a dealer....I mean *******. The thing makes more noise than the one i KNOW needed replaced...I now have a fuel pressure gauge and when I checked with the one from Marty, it seems to operate as a factory one. But man, it is definetly noisy...One of the advantages of owning two CTD's is checking parts...When I have a chance, i'll order a true factory ofv. The noise....

Now, the fuel line. That's a good idea...

ENG208- I'll give your idea a try...thanks for the confirmation i'm not nutts!

I have already changed out the fuel line when I first bought the truck. I went through and corrected all known issues with this year model. I installed the USCG approved fuel line (@10.00 a ft). I have not messed with the fuel heater screen or the prefilter, but I have pulled the pickup in the tank and cleaned it when I replaced my fuel sending unit. I may get an OFV from Cummins just because my truck has 85K on it now and it has never been done that I know. I do not think it has a leak though because even when it sits for a week or two, it fires right up when cold. It is only slow to fire off when it is HOT.

bad pump timming or injector causes a hard start when hot.

Plow-

Is there a way to tell the difference? I had the timing bumped to 15.5* last year. The engine has 90k original miles on it. Seems weird to have a bad injecter already......
