HARD RIGHT TURN
HARD RIGHT TURN
When slowing down for right turn, still moving, steering wheel gets stuck. Very hard to turn. even giving more throtle does not help sometimes. I swing a hammer for U.P.R.R. for a living but can hardly steer the truck when this happens. What to look for??? >
Re:HARD RIGHT TURN
Bad Habit,
While stopped on pavement, press the brake and turn the steering wheel. If it won't move your power steering pump which also provides boost for your brakes may be weak. Then try turning the steering wheel with out pressing brakes. It should turn easily.

My neighbor had a 2000 with 50k in his shop yesterday with the same problem. He called a DC friend, who had just attended a brake and suspension class and this problem was identified.
Copenhagenjunkie
The problem is at low speeds or stopped the friction between the turning tire and the paved road and applying brakes is more than the power steering pump is designed to handle.

Sounds crazy. DC said there in nothing you can do but changing power steering pump may help but not guaranteed.

Re:HARD RIGHT TURN
Recently had something hit my steering stabilizer shock put a dent in the housing. This would not allow the piston to move in the shock itself. Replaced it then ran over a dog (actually three) and bent the shaft on new one. >

Re:HARD RIGHT TURN
my 98 does the same thing my 01 didnt. I did notice the clutch line seems to hit the steering shaft sometimes thought that might be the problem . I haven't had time to try and move it yet.
