'99 2500 - about 180000 miles. Just put on a new lift pump a few months ago(airtex). The last few weeks I've had trouble starting when the engine is hot. If it's cold, all I have to do is bump the starter and it cranks right up, but if it's hot, (sometimes, not 100% of the time) I have to wind on the starter for a few seconds before it fires off. It only does this when the engine is hot, (not unusually hot, but normal operating temp 180-190 degrees). Is this a sign of the injector pump going out. The reason I replaced the lift pump a few months ago is because the old one had completely quit working, the bad thing is, I'm not sure how long it had been out before I replaced it.

Any suggestions or ideas ???

 

Getting your codes read from any parts store is the best place to start.

Your on the right track that the VP might be dying but the codes will tell you that. You could have a air leak in the return line but that normally indicates a hard cold start, a hard hot start normally ='s VP not always.

Mine just did the same thing last week but worse and it's now getting a new IP. I ran for about a year with no codes but harder hot starts like your describing, up to 20 seconds of cranking to get her running then the code.

try unplugging your lift pump then crankin it i have an airtex also they put out enough pressure to cause hard starts if you aint heard about that do a search
