Grid heater every start even when hot?
Grid heater every start even when hot?
Did a search and all I came up with was a posible IAT senser cleaning?
Any other ideas, it cycles full pull on every start now no matter what even if the truck was up to O/T and just shut off for a minute. Its colder now I know but this is something new and its beating the stuffing out of the batts. Its seams to stop cycling when I get up to speed or up to 1800RPM as it should but what would tell the PCM to cycle every start. Should I change the IAT senser (sprayed it with carb cleaner and no change) or is there another temp senser? Thanks

The grid heaters are contolled by the intake air temperature, not the operating temp. They shut off after the vehicle gets up to about 25 mph no matter what temp it is. You can celan the IAT sensor. I have twice in in 7 years and 182K miles. Both times it was clean as a whistle. Make sure you HAND start it when you put it back in. I broke the cage off mine and if it would have fallen inside.....
Just drive it like you stole it.

Any other things that tell those grid heaters to opperate?
Do the mod to stop those heaters from comming on as soon as you fire up the mighty Cummins.Wire those relays into an oil pressure sending unit and as soon as you have oil pressure they cant come on no more, saves batterys, alternator and dim lights when they cut in. Once started that engine dont need no intake heaters, also when you start warm as soon as you turn the key to on ,they will come on but as soon as its running they go off and never come back on,oil prssure switch prevents this.
