gov. solonoid?
My experience wasn't gradual, it just died.
Starting out in 2nd gear unless manually shifted to 1st, or never shifting out of 1st, ever, were my symptoms.
I might have noticed late downshifts for a week or so before it totally died.
Coming to a stop at a light, about 20 seconds later it felt like it downshifted, or someone bumped me from behind.
Wait, what are you talking about?
According to your sig, the only truck you have left is a 12 valve 5 speed.

The governor solenoid can go bad all the sudden, yes. My transmission was shifting normal friday night...left a friends place saturday morning and my transmission wouldn't shift out of 1st unless i let off the accelerator and allowed the RPM's to drop back down. It would then shift into 2nd and I would have to accelerate very lightly or else it would slip out of 2nd and go back to 1st.
comming home this morning from the gym and the tranny started going from over drive to drive I would let off the accelerater a little and it would shift back into over drive,I have noticed strange downshifts and this morning when I would take off it would not shift from first to second until it got to about 2300rpm's and when I let off the pedal it down shifted right away, any Ideas it sounds similar to the problems you all are having with the gov. solenoid
