Got a question on Front end?
Ok, dealer just called, they are fixing an engine problem under warranty, now they tell me that all my tie rods are worn out and they want to replace and put a track bar on for $1500.00 (they don't recommend that I drive it very far) plus do the front brakes for 460.00. So I need to find a cheaper option for fixing my front end, the brakes no problem just did the back ones. I am not going to ever lift my truck so I am looking for the best yet ecnomical way to fix the front end, I am very mechaically able to handle this. Thanks for the info.

I've had good results with MOOG tie rod replacement parts (NAPA) and with the Luke's link for the trackbar. http://www.lukeslink.com/ All these parts can be replaced athome, only the alignemnt must be checked afterwards. The price of 1500$ sounds quite high to me for just a track bar and tie rod ends.
I did never try to fix tie rod ends with a luke's link, it looks like a nice option to me though...

dont get it done at the dealer, I work at a chrysler dealership as a tech, and you can fix it yourself much cheaper. $460 for front brakes is robbery, get some Napa safety stop ceramics and pad-slap it, thats what I have on my truck, no brake dust and good stopping.
Of all the rams I see come in our shop, I hardly ever see a bad tie-rod end on the trucks, but it is possible, mostly just the trackbar, and the tie-rod end on the gearbox. The 2000-2002 2500s and 3500s do eat balljoints like no tomorrow, make sure you check those for excessive play.
I would check your front end with a floorjack to see what actually needs to be replaced, leave the truck on the ground to check the trackbar and joint on the gearbox. if trackbar is bad, grab a lukes link, they're great.

Funny thing was the shop fore woman said she wouldn't recommend that I drive it very far and I asked her about fixing it and she said well, we replace the tie rod ends and then we use a product called Luke's Link to re-furbish the track bar. I started laughing and said I was familiar with that product and that it cost under 70.00, so why was the bill going to be so high? She said well it doesn't matter to me where you get it fixed but I would get fixed some quick. My only question is, if the ends are so bad wouldn't I have driving issues with it?? It steers great. The only reason that I use the dealer is for the warranty work, everything else I can do.
