Fuel system troubles??
My dad has a 2002 6 speed HO. This is his third cummins. His curren truck has about 68,000 miles on it. For about the last 15,000 miles he has had a problem with the truck. When he is driving the truck up a hill it goes up the hill with out a problem, then when he comes down the other side of the hill he will let his foot of the gas pedel so the truck is remaining at the same speed, when it is time to press the gas pedal in to maintain the speed once the road has flattend out, he gets nothing. Not acceleration at all, even if he hold the pedal to the floor. To correct this problem, he has to push the clutch in, and let the truck idle back down to normal idol rpms. After he does this the truck run normal with proper acceleration ect. untill he comes to a similar situation. We changed the fuel filter in his truck thinking that might be the problem, but it was not. Not sure what to do from here, thought you guys might be able to help us out. Thanks

Ok I guess if you don't know what the codes are, go to Autozone and tell them to read them, they will do it for free. When something goes wrong with the engine it sets a code in the computer system that can be read to see what went wrong. On your truck they can be read from the dash, but I do not know the sequence to bring them up.

Sequence is as follows.
Turn ignition to on (don't start).
Turn to off.
Turn to on.
Turn to off.
Turn to on, watch odometer window.
Should read P-ECU, then some codes, and/or P-Done.
Then, P-PCU, then some codes, and/or P-Done.
Tech Facts link from main banner above will have a link for codes.
All codes don't show up with this method, best is to have Autozone, or other major parts store read them with a reader.

Thanks for showing me the link to the page that has all of the meanings to what the codes mean, I will inform my dad about it and have him try it and see if what he gets. Thanks

It is the APPS and is really over priced. Mine has been doing that for a year or more and I will live with it until it completely fails. My dads 99 has been doing it for 6 months.

The APPS is the accelerator pedal position sensor. It tells the computers how much "go-juice" you want, anthe the silicone critters do calculate how much to inject, when to do it, what to tell the transmission etc. If this one goes bad the electr'a'brains of the truck won't know that you want to have more power so they won't give more power. They are trained to just give you idle when confused which is IMHO more preferrable than full power in most situations.
