Fuel Pump

This may be an old question, but how long should you go before changing the fuel pump? I last changed in May 2004 and put on about 35,000 miles since then. Any idea's would be appreciated.

No amount of time or miles, get a fuel pressure gauge and when pressure drops below 7psi it's time.
