Fuel Pump?

Anyone have a idea? 2002 6 speed Engine will sometimes cut out to no power and sometimes white smoke. If I shift down and hammer on it she'll take off again. I have instlled a new frame rail lift pumpand have a constant 9lbs at the filter. I have a edge comp box and it makes no diff if it is on or off. Thanks Don

Check for codes. But the symptoms you describe sound like the VP44 is about done.

fuel pump

There is only 52000 on truck. I have edge comp, 4 inch turbo back stainless, k&n filter, Piller gauges EGT fuel pressure & boost. Many times at start up it will blow a whitiss blue smoke then clear up. Usually cuts out when I ease off pedal. Is 9lbs at filter enough pressure? Thanks Don

sounds like dead pedal, and a bad vp44 to me. key on, off, on, off, on, and watch the odometer for codes. 0216 will be the code you don't want to see.

That depends. What is the pressure at the VP?

There can be a huge restriction in the filter that you may or may not be seeing. Depends on what side of the filter you are checking.

It may simply need a new filter. Double check lift pump pressures at idle, cruise and WOT. All measurements should be taken as close the VP as possible and after all restrictions (fittings).

Yeah. I take the FP reading on the outlet of the fuel filter so I know what the VP is seeing. Works like a champ (finally). See at least 12 - 13 @ WOT. About 16 -17 at idle.

fuel pump

Has any one tried replacing the fuel control actuator on the fuel pump? Does this control fuel to the pump and can this cause my symtoms? Thanks again Don

I finnally got the codes to come up. PECU PO216. P1693. P1687. So p216 is the pump failing? Is changing pump a tough onewith special tools? Don
