Fuel pressure woes.....

Well, I just installed my fuel pressure light, and lo and behold, I have low fuel pressure. At idle, my light stays off, but as soon as I climb above 1200rpms, it comes on and continues to stay on whilst driving. I changed the fuel filter hoping that would help, but nothing. I have no codes, etc... BTW, the fuel pressure switch I got, warns you when you drop below 7PSI.

So, i went and bought a new lift pump and it should be coming in Friday. I wanted to get the FASS, but came up short of $100.00. Parking the truck for the rest of the week.

I just hope my VP44 doesn't go next. Have any of you guys had this problem and your VP survived or did it tank a few weeks later?

IMO, too many variables to advise you...
- How many miles has pressure been low.
- How hard you drive.
- Total miles, and # of heat cycles, on VP-44.
- New or rebuilt VP-44.
- Tow heavy or daily driver
- Etc, etc, etc.....

There is always a chance you caught it in time. Yes, I have seen some go on trouble free after late discovery of low FP.
Just think lots of positive thoughts. (and start tucking some money aside, just in case!)

Good Luck.

Yes, exactly as yours when I first bought mine from previous owner. Put my low psi kit after friend went through major expense when his LP went out and killed IP. I think my IP lasted another three or four years after that, but then again it was the original and had over 165,000 miles on it.

I've gone through 3 LP's..... This last one only lasted about a year. My extended warrenty is over and I'm going to install a Fass DDRP fuel pump this time. I have 70,000 hard towing miles on the truck and still have the original VP-44. Good Luck. P.S. I have a fuel pressure guage that I watch constantly.

Finished installing the lift pump last night. My fuel pressure light is off now.

I do plan on putting gauges in the truck in the next coupla months. Next time the lift pump goes, I will be going with a Fass for sure. Anyway, thanks for the help guys. Paul
