I'm no expert on this bs but my old pump and my new one is the same. My light flickers at 70mph with a slight pull up hill. At W.O.T. the light goes off???I have read till my eyes won't focus anymore. I asked questions till my ears hurt. Everybody will tell you something different. The Cummins mechanic told me that with a stock lift pump the light will flicker some. He told me that the light on my rig starts to flicker @ 8 psi and comes on steady @ less than 5 psi.
I know this is probally no help but that is how mine is working. I miss having a normal vehicle that you can just get in and drive without all this worry. NOT worth the bother if you ask me.. Just my 2 cents worth..

I know what you mean old 300, I wanted a diesel as long as I can remember, finally got one and I am like you I worry about the darn thing all the time, but its not the motor it'll run for ever its just everything around it like the lift pump, injection pump, and tranny. Some of these guys on here I think have more money than they know what to do with, I ain't got alot to spend on repairs just wanna drive it.

Hey babyjoe, I think your the first to hit the nail on the head. I too don't have any extra money to throw around. I would like to have a vehicle that you can drive without too much in repairs. I spent close to $3000 last summer on brakes, exhaust, LP, and other odds. I don't mind a repair or 2 but before I got my truck all I heard was that these trucks are the best thing since sliced bread. Well I agree that the motors will likely go for almost ever if looked after. My problem is I have had many vehicles in the past and never spent hardly any money on repairs. I know I spent more on my truck since I have had it than all the others combined. I kid you not.. I love my truck but I just don't know if I can afford to keep her. Brad Paisley could write a song about that, couldn't he? " Well I love her but I can't afford to keep her"". All said I do like my truck but the constant worry is driving me crazy. The other day I said to a buddy that one good thing about the truck is that the radio works good. Well it wasn't a week later when the drivers door speaker quit. Go figure. By the way this truck of mine has been very well looked after and only has 45000 miles on it. Not worn out by any means.

I think I'll try it for awhile longer, my last was a 1997 gas that I put 167,000 on and the only thing I ever did to it was a waterpump and battery, and never worried about it. didn't have this 01 with 124000 a week and put a lift pump on it, But it does sound like we are alike, I baby all my stuff....

I was watching a nascar show the other night and I think it was DW that said something that made me laugh. He said " Drive it like you stole it" . Maybe that is our problem,we are driving them too easy. Not the part about stealing them.Lol.
Anyway sorry I couldn't help much on the light. The Cummins mechanic told me not to worry too much about a flicker just if the light comes on under all engine speed conditions. he said that was the indicator as far as if the lp was working.
Good luck with the truck.

I have a low pressure light with the Cummins switch from a Campaign pump, and a gauge. Both are pressure sourced from the fitting on the VP44. I have the light flicker at WOT, and the gauge reads 10 PSI at the lowest. It's a mechanical gauge and I trust it. When the lift pump goes the light goes constant red. The light seems to flicker more when the engine & ambient temps are cold.

Thanks kennedy, I need a gauge, but money is tight now, so I just bought a light the pump is new so hopefully I got awhile...
