Fuel Line Blockage

Howdy all,

After putting on 3 different lp's last week (all psi's were within 1 lb of each other 8-9 psi pre-filter @ idle) I decided that maybe my fuel psi sender was bad so I got Briar Hoppers psi guage to verify. It showed about 10 at idle.
1. I have a feeling that the pump is having a hard time working due to a vaccume problem with the tank. Since I have a flat bed on my truck the fuel cap is different and I don't think it is vented. I never hear a whooosh when removing the cap though ??? 2. Is there some kind of screen in the fuel tank that could be blocked? 3. Is there a vent on top of the tank?

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Karl

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

there is a screen on the pick up in the tank and one on your lift pump. Some trucks came from the factory with a cap on the vent tube you might check it out.

Rich-Cowboy thanks,
I did find some interesting threads on TDR about this- [undecided] I guess I will drop the tank give it a good cleaning and see what happens.

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

I wanted to bump this back too the top for some input- I looked at the top of the fuel tank (It's nice having a flatbed ;D) and I can see that there is a rubber plug over the pressure relief/rollover valve.Should I remove it?

Karl

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

Check on here. I can't seem to find mention of it but there is a vent cap that was left on the tank at the factory that needs to be removed. I would say remove it but am not sure if that is the location that you are speaking of. Check the above mentioned page to make sure. I am pretty sure that you need to remove it and that should fix your problem.

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

on the injector pump next to the inline is a large banjo with a check valve it might be plugged some. you should be around 15 at idle not 10 . you might need to pull the sending unit out and check it for any clogging that black cap i believe is the one that needs to be removed if their is no other venting

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

RIch Cowboy,
Not that I don't appreciate your input, so don't take this the wrong way but....

I am concentrating from the fuel pump and back to the tank. My post filter pressure is just slightly lower than pre-filter but only by a 1/2-1lb. I know it's not the sending unit after verifying that with briar hoppers fuel pressure gauge- they both read the same. There is a filter screen on the bottom of the fuel tank module so I think I will start there and work forward. Having changed 5 lp's in the last year I think thats the best place to start. Yep all were doa and this does not include the 3 I changed last week.
I am not having any stumble or hard starting but I can tell it is low on power.

Look here www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/ISB/low_power.htm for the info on the rollover/pressure relief valve. The black rubber plug is not to be removed.

Oh, when you get your turbo-master be sure to spray some lube on the turbo bolts- I did and still busted one. You will see what I am talking about when you read the directions.

Karl

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

i'm tough so dont worry about my feelings but when i'm at idle i'm running 15 post filter. but i think your on the right track as far as it being from the tank to pump. could something from the mounting of the flatbed pinched or kinked the line. on my 95 it looked like a lot of crap would have to get in inorder to plug the screen but the pick-up has a screen on it so maybe its clogged or its in the line. take it out and blow some compreesed air thru the line from the pump bact to the tank it might clear the line. let me know what you find i'm curious. i broke the tip out of the last bolt on my turbo bracket fixed with a tap. thanks tho

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

When the bolt snapped I thought "GREAT" that's all I need. I got it out tho and re tapped. Seems to be working -set at 20 turns.

Re:Fuel Line Blockage

Now my idle fp has slowly risen to 12+ ???. I don't understand it how could it be getting greater when it was at 10 or less when the new pump was installed. More restriction would increase pressure but decrease flow. wot is around 8. All measurements backed up with mechanical gauge.
