Fuel Filter Change
Re:Fuel Filter Change
HOLY CRAP. Where can I get my BHAF? I just got some graduation money and I got a free ride to college so hear comes my chip and BHAF as soon as I figure where to get them and what the best is.
Re:Fuel Filter Change
The heat shield you'll have to fab up yourself, or find someone handy with sheet metal to make you one.

The template can be found in the Tech Facts (line above in the main page graphic) , or from this link.

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...p;onlynewfaq=1

You can also get the BHAF from Cummins of Fleetguard, part numbers earlier in post as well, or from any major truck shop.

phox
Re:Fuel Filter Change
From the Tech Facts section at the top of the page:
Definition of Terms
BHAF= Big Honkin' Air Filter.
A much large filter, usually installed on larger commercial diesel engines that attatches directly to the turbo intake hose.
It allow more air, but can get wet, and pulls heated air from under the hood.

Re:Fuel Filter Change
WOW, thanks I didnt even know that definition page existed. Thanks. Oh yeah I had another question! When you say "bump" the starter to prime the fuel do u mean actually make the truck roll over for a short short second so it doesnt start or just turn the key to the on position? Because when I turn the key to the on position I can hear something like turn on and it sounds like a fuel pump so is it still necesarry to roll the truck over? Thanks again.

Bump is engaging the starter for just a split second, to fool the lift pump into running for it's 30 sec start cycle.

Does this mean u are going to roll the truck over? I dont mean roll it over but bump it so it starts to roll and then stop instantly? Or just turn the key on?
I hate to sound like an idiot but I am just not sure on this!!

Re:Fuel Filter Change
Bump means just very quickly touch the starter and let off. Don't try turning it over. When you turn the key on the pump cyles. When it quits bump the starter and it will cycle again. Each time it quits cycling bump the starter again. Do this 3 or 4 times, then turn it over to start.

Stan
Re:Fuel Filter Change
A method i use to bleed the air out of the system after a filter change is to remove the schraeder valve from the banjo fitting at the injection pump, put a snug fitting piece of hose over the threaded part and direct the other end down into a container under the truck on the ground, bump the starter once, at the end of the lift pump cycle a full stream of fuel should start to flow, remove the hose , replace the valve, and fire her up. Truck starts perfectly, no burps, farts, or stalling and a lot easier on the starter. ;D I picked this little trick up from a post on this site so thanks to whoever posted it origionally it really works.

rob
