FP drop

FP will drop from 14 at cruise to 10. I changed the FF and no change. Funny thing about it is if I blast the throttle and let off FP goes back up. I'm thinking I'm getting a bend/kink in the line and letting off the throttle moves the line. I don't think its my LP failing. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm thinking I need to take the line from the FF to the VP and shorten it up since this is the only place I have slack in the fuel lines.

I just went throught the same thing. Idling at 12 then it would drop to 7. Give her throttle and she'd bounce back up. This was a new campaign pump. Swapped the pump out with my spare and everything is back to normal. Time to get away from the Carter!

Well the pump is under warrenty- so you think its starting to fail? That sucks. I hope I don't have to wait for it to completely fail for Napa to replace it.

Makes me think about the rasp, glacier diesel, or a fass II pump. And I was just thinking that if I could get those caimpain pumps for $65 it'd take a lot of failures to get to the price of a better pump. Guess not

Ph4tty,

FASS time it sounds like to me. This is usually the start of the supply pumps demise! 99% of the FASS systems we sell are to Dodge owners because of this exact problem. Do it now so you don't cause any injection pump wear and tear! If you hurt it it will hurt your cash flow a lot!!

I thought that 14/10 sounded pretty darn good... What's the problem?

Mine has been 14/8 until recently (14/5)... incidentally I just purchased the cummins campaign pump, a month ago, to have on hand. Looks like I'll be using it sooner than I thought. Existing pump has lasted 83,000 miles

It is the fact that at some point in time it went from a 15/12 to a 10/9 that bothers me. Maybe a campaign pump would be a good pusher since its made to be flowed through when it fails.

As far as warranty is concerned:

I got a little over 1K on the new campaign pump. I called Cummins regarding the warranty and they told me I'd have to purchase another pump while they sent the faulty one in to get checked out. I'd receive a refund via mail. What's all that about??? I've already replaced the pump with an older pump I had as a spare. If anything, I'd want a replacement, but they're telling me they can't do that. Anyone had a similar experience?

My guages does the same thing and i have the FASS II i dont know if it is my guage its electrical or what but i have 18 at idle and then to 15 at cruise then wot goes to 12 then jumps back to 15 and will stay there then jumps a round a little bit. I think it just my electrical guage jumping around i dunno. I have the pump mounted on the outside of my frame close to my body and it has a pretty good 90* turn in the line does anyone know if i move the pump to where its better angle in the hose it will be any better? Or does it matter. I was thinking to make a bracket to make it set back futher cause im not to fonder of the sharp 90 in the line but if its not goning to make a difference then .....

You might have something there... at least you'd be able to have easier access to it in the event that you'll have to replace it again. I'm not too happy with the remark about a failure in 1000 miles.

I have not done any research on the actual failures, since I've been lucky with my pump's reliability, but I'm curious what fails on these pumps. I knew the reputation of the pump so I'd been testing pressure as part of my maintenance schedule.
Do the vanes wear...? is the feed too restrictive (small diameter) causing strain on the motor.?

I'm going to do some searching on the subject...
