Which fluids for transmission and transfer case
Which fluids for transmission and transfer case
2000 ram 2500 4wd with 5 speed.
Ive read that some use 5w30 or gl4 or 75-90 with addition quart or two of atf 4.
and ideas on the transfer case?
Just got a new used old ram and want to change the fluids out before driving it.
If Forrest was still with us id just ask him.

I run amsoil MTG in the transmission and Amsoil atf in the t case. Lots of heavy, hard pulling miles, and no problems to date.
also running Amsoil 75w90in both diffs.

Regular ATF in chain tcases like 241/242. I have no doubt it would be fine with engine oil of similar viscosity.
Not currently running a nv4500, but will do the rebuild with bronze syncros so I don't need expensive snake oil.

For your 2000 Ram 2500 4WD with a 5-speed, here’s what you should use:
Transmission Fluid:
Manual Transmission: You can use GL-4 gear oil or 75W-90 gear oil. Some people also add ATF+4 to the mix, but it’s usually best to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for your specific model.
Transfer Case Fluid:
Use ATF+4 transmission fluid for the transfer case, unless the owner’s manual says otherwise.
Before you change fluids, double-check the owner's manual for any specific fluid requirements for your truck. It's always a good idea to replace all fluids, including the differential oil, as part of regular maintenance.

I've stuck with ATF+4 for the life of my transfer case with no issues...remember to get the fill nut out before draining, just in case
My 6-speed gets Pennzoil Synchromesh but the 5 speeds take 75-90 according to my FSM....
