Filter change just got easier

This is what I thought was a dumb idea but it actually works. I had some strips from an old inner tube lying around that i used to bundle sheet plastic with and thought if I wrapped this thing around my oil filter I could spin it off like starting an old tiller.
Well it works. I wrapped it clockwise around the filter about seven times and loosened the filter and put a plastic bag around it and then pulled and it spun off and fell in the bag. Presto...no/ very little mess.

I'm gonna wrap one around my next filter at the install and secure it with a band from a bike tube so its there for the next change. It seems like pretty durable rubber so I figure if it gets too hot it'll just break and fall off. Hope this works!

I always use a oil filter wrench with rubber gloves. And a catch pan. No mess.. And if anything does get oil just use a little brake clean and it's like new again.

I use the extra oil that gets spilled as a rust inhibitor...

I just hand tighten mine, it's never leaked yet. I can hand unscrew and use a gallon ziplok bag around the filter as I unscrew to catch all the mess and filter when it falls. No mess at all, grab the filter to drain in the pan and zip up the filter bag for disposal.

Yeah, I live in a very sensitive environmentally conscious area and when I change my oil I get a lot of 'inspection' afterwards. I have been using the bag method but the oil runs down the filter and it's a real ***** to grip and turn. This idea came to me in a dream.....I don't have very fantastic dreams!
