Question Exhaust question

Howdy y'all,

Can anyone tell me what came on a 01 Cummins as far as stock exhaust system goes. I think my exhaust was replaced by the previous owner, but I have no way of knowing unless I know what came stock.

The way mine appears now is a 4 inch down pipe into the muffler, 4 inches back some more and then reduces to 3 1/2 inch pipe the rest of the way out to the 5 inch tip (its a chrome turnout like you would find on a big rig). I don't think this is stock as there is no resonator anywhere.

Any information would be appreciated.

Exhaust

If your exhaust was stock ,01' model, it would have had a resonator and not a big 5 in. chrome tip, sounds to me like someone put an after market system on, which is to your advantage.

I thought the tip was because the previous owner liked the look of it rather than the original tailpipe. Oh well. I think the muffler fairy is due to pay a visit to my truck this weekend !

Stock exhaust is from turbo to resonator 3", then resonator, then a small 4" section to muffler, then muffler, then 3" tail pipe, then 4" exhaust tip. Get rid of that 3 1/2" tail section and put a 4" section in there instead.

If anything that 3 1/2" section should have been the down pipe section and then 4" the rest of the way back. This promotes better air flow due to air scavanging than a 4" from turbo to tailpipe.

A 4" system from turbo to tail pipe is also a very good system.
