exhaust brake opinions
My boss wants to put an exhaust brake on his 2000 automatic. I'm looking into prices at the moment and want some opinions on the different brands. Pacbrake is looking like a good unit, and appears to be fully plug-and-play, no having to order any other parts with it, which it looks like you have to do with the BD set-up. And yes, I know Banks is over-priced for the results achieved.
He also wants to go to a 4 or 5 inch straight-pipe exhaust. Any particular brands that anyone has had good luck with, and install easily?
Not after a ton more power, just more noise and better stopping.

diamond eye has a good exhaust and we have E brake from just about all of them and pacbrake is at the top, for working good and customer service! but you need to know what exhaust your putting on to determand if you need a turbo mount or inline to fit 4"or 5"
From what I have seen so far, BD has remote-mount and turbo-mount brakes for 4" tubes. But the turbo-mount has vacuum activation, so we'd have to source a vac pump as well, where their remote mount can be had with a compressor. Then we still need the trans controller. As for 60 pound valve springs, are they needed in the 24 valve, or is that just for the 12 valve?
Though the Pacbrake kit sounds a lot simpler to order, I like the idea of BD's valve body with the 2nd gear lock-up in it.

Had no idea they still had vacuum on the 24valves. Told the boss I like the BD for the transmission upgrades that it can work with, he asked if it was necessary. I told him no, but when the transmission goes out it would be nice to have the option of upgrading at that time. Now that we know about the vac, we will probably go with the BD, thanks.
Give Lary a call at this site's store. He will give you the lowest price possible and he can help you get all the parts you need so you can keep the truck in good shape without messing it up.
In other words, he will tell you the dependant parts you need as not to overheat etc. Good luck.

BD also makes inline vacuum actuated brakes, I have one in my truck. I went with it because the turbo version comes in a given size and if you ever think of upgrading the turbo, you will need to replace the brake too.
I think that's what we are going with. The 4 inch inline vacuum. Upgrading the turbo isn't in the plans but who knows, his son is 15, and may end up with the truck someday. But it's not likely. The one that this replaced had almost 300K on it, couldn't keep the front suspension together because of the way it got beat, probably had enough hours on it for another 50,000+ miles because of the stuff we run off the hydra-bed hydraulic remote.
