Angry Evil vacuum pump!!

Well, I replaced the seal in my pump a few weeks back but still had a slight leak to it so I had it off again last night and replaced the seal again thinking I had damaged it some how when I installed the power steering pump but after checking it tonight I noticed its still leaking a little bit. The shaft was spotless so I am at a loss as to why this thing keeps leaking.

Could there be a pressure build up in the pump ?

Does the vaccum it creates vent to the engine or does it vent to the outside through a whole in the body?

Just a little ticked at this point and really cant come up with a good explanation.

BTW I used a Viton seal with a dust edge on it.

Did you replace the o-ring also? I had mine done under partial warranty and it still leaked until they took it back out and replaced the o-ring too. Since then, no more leak.

When I did mine I had a small drip also. It went away after a short time. I keep checking but it's still dry now. If it's not leaking too bad maybe you could give it some time to see if it clears up.

By the way, do you have the sizes of the O rings you replaced? The size I found was the wrong one and I didn't think to measure the old one before I put it together. It would be nice to have for future reference.

It vents to the crankcase and can seriously add to the blowby.

Very little blow by on my truck so I dont think that is an issue then.

I will check it again in a few days and see if its still leaking.

Sizes for the O-rings are as follows

45mm with a thickness of 2.5 mm Silicone

73mm with a thickness of 1.5mm nitrate I think he said they were.

I used standard O-rings and have no leaks at the O-rings.
